Do No Harm. Leave No Trace.
Medical care in remote and austere environments requires specialized skills tailored to a wide spectrum of potential situations. Underlying all of these emergency scenarios, however--whether high in the mountains, in the dessert, abroad, or at sea--are the principles of medicine as handed down through the ages.
Who better then to serve as the premiere resource for knowledge than the physicians, residents and medical students who have trained extensively to understand fundamental medical knowledge. Wilderness medicine at its best, after all, is an exciting extension of medical training, beginning with the basic sciences, continuing in the microscope and cadaver labs, furthered in the hospital, and culminating with patient care.
The Wilderness Medicine section of the American College of Emergency Physicians is dedicated to the discussion and distribution of the principles of medicine, practiced wherever they may be needed, under whatever conditions may exist. We hope to extend our collective expertise to anyone who desires to learn from it.
