TheLocalProject is a nationwide crowdsourcing initiative with the mission of “Building a Better Internet at the Local Level”. As great as the Internet is globally and nationally, it still hasn’t matured locally. The closer we ‘search or shop’ online to where we live, the more today’s technology underperforms.
Most of us still can’t book online reservations with local area restaurants, hairstylists, or auto mechanics. We can text our family and our friends, but not local businesses. We tend to do more and more shopping with national websites because its too difficult to find the same products online locally. It can be harder to find some local businesses ‘online’ than it used to be in the phone book. When we do find most local websites; they typically only offer: name, address, phone number and map listing. There is no meaningful functionality that allows us to truly “connect” with that business.
TheLocalProject is about “Connecting!” We exist to connect Businesses, Communities and Residents in more meaningful ways than what’s available anywhere else.
Our endeavor addresses this challenge by establishing what are called “Local Area Networks” arranged the way people work, live and play. We accomplish this through: 1) equipping communities with the technology needed to establish the platform in their area, and by 2) partnering with local people, businesses, civic agencies, and community organizations.
We welcome you to join us in building the local area network in your town!
