At Decatur Family Psychiatry we provide comprehensive mental health services. We are 12 clinicians working together for your mental wellness and recovery.
Decatur Family Psychiatry sees individuals with concerns about their psychiatric, mental, and/or behavioral health regardless of age. We can treat the whole family using medical interventions and psychotherapies. We provide individual care and care for the whole family. Our approach to psychiatric, mental and behavioral health involves the engagement, treatment and change of the individual and how he/she interacts with the world. We interact with family, other healthcare providers, schools, the workplace and others who are identified as important actors in the lives of our patients when we are asked and permitted by the patient.
Regarding the use of psychotropic medication, our approach is conservative. Medication is only ever used as an adjunct to recovery. Medications are prescribed one at a time. We make one change in any particular part of the medication regimen at a time. There must be a specific goal for the medication prescribed. The medication performance is evaluated at every visit based on the expected target symptoms. If a medication is not doing what is expected or causing intolerable side effects it is stopped. Patients and families are given all the information they need to make a good decision about whether medications could be helpful in their road to recovery.
We see patients for appointments on Mondays through Saturday. Our office hours are flexible between 7 am and 6 pm except for Saturday when the hours are 8 am to noon. Correspondence related to routine matters is usually handled via email and patients will be given email instructions at their initial consultation. In practice we have found that the liberal use of email has been a great way of keeping engaged with our patients and their caretakers. Often times email is not only more convenient than talking by phone, it is quicker. More urgent or emergent matters can be handled by phone during and after hours.
We are generally an out of network provider for most insurance plans and payment is expected at the time of service. We will provide all patients with a “superbill” they can file with their insurance company for any possible reimbursement for out of network providers. There are providers in our practice who accept some insurance plans.
We look forward to working with you in your path of recovery.
