At Double Standard Kitchenetta & Bar, there are bushels of quality components that play a unique role in creating our brand, from the food we serve to the fine décor we offer, creating for you an experience that’s worth raving about.
For starters, only Arbequina blend olive oil is used, sourced from the second press of Napa Valley harvest olives to complement the delicate flavor combinations in each dish. All of our pasta is hand made from scratch every day and our tomatoes are 100% organic San Marzano, shipped to us from Northern California by Bianco di Napoli. Sicilian oregano is taken directly off the plant by hand for every dish and arrives to us direct from Italy, and Mediterranean sea salt from Sicily is exclusively used. Our fresh mozzarella and burrata is made daily by our friends at Gioia cheese in California and delivered to us within hours of its production. Parmesan is 100% Grana Padano. All chicken served is by Mary's and is all-natural (no antibiotics or hormones and prepared sous vide). Our DS Burger uses only certified all-natural Angus beef and Panuzzo Sandwiches are baked to order in our wood ovens from scratch. The DS Meatball, possibly the best meatball in America, is made from 100% Strauss organic milk-fed veal. All of our kale and vegetables are organic whenever possible.
When it comes to the sea, we support sustainable practices when sourcing local fish that is all line-caught and wild, never farm raised. And our lobster is always live, fresh from Maine.
Our salami selections come from San Francisco suppliers like Molanari and Bocalone. Even our French fries are fresh cut daily and cooked to perfection. Our pizza is made from a proprietary dough recipe and starter-proofing process handed down over 50 years and fired in our wood-burning ovens at 600 degrees.
Double Standard’s specialty cocktails originate from freshly squeezed juices, never pre-made. All of our craft beers are San Diegan, and taps are rotated weekly with top local producers. Our wines are carefully selected for quality, not by price from Italian and Californian producers.
The interior design at DS is equally thought out, with finishes of Venezia stone hand- rubbed by artisans, reclaimed actual brick, leather custom sofas and furniture, reclaimed barn wood tables, custom-designed meat hook Edison chandeliers, a California Redwood library wall, our story is hand-painted on our blackboard wall (as shown on this page), Carrara marble dining counters, open-air garage door walls and a whimsical 160 ft. grass patio inhabit our downtown setting. Music selections are classical chill to contemporary lounge through our "guest speech intelligible JBL imagineered” system.
We created Double Standard Kitchenetta with the experience of over 100 successful restaurants under our belts. It’s our pleasure to provide San Diego with a dining destination for those who appreciate the difference.
