The mission of Evolve is to elevate the overall wellbeing of members within the community by offering unique, full-body enhancing, specialized small group fitness classes in a safe, welcoming and environmentally friendly atmosphere at a price affordable to anyone and everyone.
In the winter of 2006 things began to drastically change in Heather Forbes’ life. While training for her 10th marathon in 4 years, she became sick…very sick. Sick to the point that her training became almost impossible. However, being an athlete since the age of 5, she was used to hard work and struggle so she pushed through and kept training and competed in the NYC marathon in November 2006. The days following the marathon were brutal…her muscle recovery took weeks compared to what usually took hours or days. In the weeks following, her health deteriorated to the point that she lost close to 30 lbs in 2 months…and by the 2nd week in Feb she lost 7 lbs in 4 days. This finally sent her to the Dr. as her body was barely able to function. Other symptoms included constant urination, extreme hunger, extreme thirst, horrible dehydration and cramps, loss of eyesight to the point that she needed glasses, and zero ability to concentrate or sleep properly. On Monday, February 12, 2007, a healthy, athletic, nutritionally conscious Heather Forbes, at the age of 33, was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes. After being in the hospital for 3 days, and months of feeling absolutely horrible, she finally felt better. But… Life as she knew it would never be the same.
After a couple of roller coaster years of depression and trying to get her “normal” life back…Heather finally realized and accepted that this was her life. Her new life. Life with Type-1 Diabetes is an all day, every hour, every single second, every empty thought, every activity, every moment, every ounce of food or drop of liquid that you ever put in your body for the rest of your entire existence kind of disease. There is no break…EVER! There is no pill to last 24 hours…or even 1 hour. It is an all-consuming life-style kind of disease. That’s a hard pill to swallow when you lived 33 years with no thought to any of this. Numbers became her life...testing blood sugars 10-14 times a day (that’s about 1x every hour), counting carbs, counting units, remembering when certain units were taken, what time of day they were taken, how fast are her sugars dropping, how many carbs should she take in the car or to work, what time is she exercising, how far in advance should she eat before exercising, or taking insulin, how long did she exercise the day before, what time did she last eat, how many units of insulin are still in her body…and the list goes on all day everyday. Eventually this became less daunting and more “livable.” She found her groove and got past a tremendous amount of fear by learning from other type-1 athletes she now calls friends. It was through these friends that she found the inspiration and motivation to follow her dreams and open her own fitness studio.
In early 2010, the concept of Evolve was created and in June 2010, Evolve Fusion Fitness, LLC was born!!
We strive to make sure that when you walk into Evolve, your outside world stops and you feel as though the next hour is all about you! We know that where you choose to workout is about more than just the workout. It’s about the attention you receive, it’s about how knowledgeable the instructors are, it’s about how challenged and safe you feel, it’s about the connections you make with the people helping you and working out along side you, it’s about the feeling you get from the moment you walk in the door until the moment you leave. It can be as simple as a smile, or a nice gesture or a friendly comment. All of these things are important to us and our goal is for Evolve to be your “Fitness Sanctuary.”
We know that having a place to workout in your own neighborhood is a very special treat. There’s really nothing else like it. It’s intimate, it’s motivating, it’s inspirational, it’s FUN, it’s your own little fitness sanctuary. It allows you to stay close to home, arrive easily on your way out or on your way in, it becomes a place where you reconnect with old friends and develop new friends in the process. At Evolve, we are all about integrating into the community and enhancing the health and wellness of the members we serve.
At Evolve we are all about making a difference in the lives of our members. We are also all about giving back to local and national organizations that are making a difference in the lives of people in need. Each year we hold charity events and run class specials directed towards giving back to the community. To date, we have raised and given over $15,000 to charities such as the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Hope for the Warriors, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, Tuesday’s Children and Insulindependence. We look forward to these events and specials every single year and we are excited to now open a 2nd studio where our impact can be even more substantial in the lives of people in need!
