My name is Arlene Barshinger and this is not my first go-round with photography. My passion started back in high school when I joined the yearbook team at Copperas Cove High School. I needed to fill a class hour and thought, "Why not?" Our teacher stuck a camera in my hand and said, "Here you go. Go out on campus and get some shots." I was hooked from that point on.
In the middle of my junior year we moved from Texas to Barstow, CA where I joined the yearbook staff at the local high school. My senior year I became the assistant editor of the yearbook and the photography editor, training other students on how to shoot, crop, develop photographs and how to do page layouts. My favorite part was working in the darkroom, watching the pictures come to life before my eyes. That changed when I moved to a different school in the middle of the year, and unfortunately, lost all my credit for the work I did until that point.
From there, I ended up working for the Desert Dispatch, which was the local newspaper. I took photographs of events, such as ribbon cuttings and special walks to raise funds for different causes, but my passion was sports photography. I took pictures for a lot of sporting events and loved it more than anything, until my oldest child arrived. :-) My dream was to become a photographer for sports illustrated.
What inspired me to start back up was my friends in the acting community. Many needed headshots but a lot of places were priced very high, which made it rough on the starving actors. So, I decided to pick back up my passion and here I am with Headshots & More. I am here to offer a service for a competitive price for models, actors, well...everyone.
Things have certainly changed since back in the late 80s and early 90s when it comes to cameras, development, and editing. I hope you enjoy my photos and ask that if you do, please share my page with your friends and tell them about my photos and services.
