My Mission for this group is to let the loved one's of addicts know that they are no longer alone. Addiction is a family disease, It affects all members of the family, Not just the parents.
It is very painful to watch our loved one slowly kill themselves with drugs, We become obsessed with the addicts behavior and try to control it, And fail every time. The addict pushes us farther away, We feel a sense of loss and lack of control, the addict slowly controls our life, by the way we react to the addict, and towards the siblings of the addict. Not all addicts are children, Sometimes it's our spouse. The child of an addicted parent has no control over what is happening in their lives, They unfortunately have to sit back in fear and watch the family slowly self destruct.
I want this group to bring families and loved one's of addicts together by sitting at the same table and to let each and everyone of them know that they are no longer, We feel their pain, their sense of loss, Lack of control and the urgency to “fix” our loved one.
This group is not about learning how to “fix” our addict, It is a peer group that we will learn through each other and readings. How to “fix” ourselves, how to put yourself and the other loved ones in our life ahead of the negative behavior of our addict. I want this group to share their knowledge and experiences with each other so we can learn from each other. Learn new coping skills, things that have worked for other group members, things that have not worked just caused more pain. A group of great minds working together as one, to come up with coping skills for when the road gets rough, or to celebrate when our addict is in treatment and working hard on their road to sobriety. A group to pat each other on the back, to laugh with each other, To cry for each other. A support group to help us become survivors of our addicts.
Recently I Love My Addict Support Group has taken on a Educational Annual Event. Addiction Awareness Day came to life when one day at our AODA Committee, We were challenged to bring Awareness to our community about addiction. I thought of a educational family event in Fountain Park, ending with a candle vigil. Loved ones are encouraged to bring a photograph (copy) of their loved one, who lost their battle to addiction, We have made a MEMORIAL WALL to hang your loved one's picture on, They will continue to live on in the hearts of family, friends and community. The wall will come with us to every major event, Our loved ones may be gone, but they will not be forgotten. We were asked by Captain James Veeser to make this a annual event. What a honer, Thank You Captain Veeser, That is what this group is going to continue to do. A ANNUAL ADDICTION AWARENESS DAY has been born. Usually the last weekend in August, a great way to kick off September which is Addiction Awareness Month.
I Love My Addict Support Group: Has started raising funds for our new program.
DESTATION SECOND STEP FLIGHT:
When you have a loved one in “Active Addiction” And you have a “AVERAGE” insurance plan, Your loved one will be allowed a 28 day inpatient treatment program. SOME insurance company's will pay for: IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) After the 28 inpatient program has been completed.
I Love My Addict Support Group is on a mission, We are going to be doing some fund raising events throughout the year. 100% of money raised will be used to regenerate our fundraisers for the following year. But most importantly our main goal is to send as many young adults to a 6 month SOBER LIVING FACILITY out of state. We want to take the person in need to a SECOND level of treatment. Sober Living for 6 months can honestly save their life. They are taught the 12 step program, and how to begin living sober again. Usually taking the person away from their triggers, temptations and unhealthy ways of living. and place them in a new environment, will help them keep the focus on their own well being, and sobriety.
I Love My Addict Support Group will be having their first annual Golf Outing Fundraiser this spring, we are hoping that this annual outing will be our biggest fundraiser of every year. The more involvement from the community, The more people we will be able to send to a 6 month Sober Living Facility.
