83 Rainey St, Austin, Texas 78701
Icenhauer's is located in a renovated house at 83 Rainey Street. Originally built in 1895 as a traditional "wing and gable" house, it remained a family residence until 2009. Over the years, it was owned by several different families and, unfortunately, had fallen into severe disrepair. But — like several other homes on the block — it now has a new life and purpose. In 2009, Patrick Birdsong of Realty Austin assisted us in finding the property. In 2010, Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, formerly Michael Hsu Design Office, and Franklin-Alan Construction renovated this old house, salvaging as much of the original house as possible and adding new structure and interior. The foundation and remaining structure of the house are all new construction.Through the demolition and construction process, we received a glimpse of the many faces this house has had, including several different exterior paint colors (yellow, green, white, and gray), various vinyl wall coverings, and the effect that 100 years of earth settlement can have on a pier and beam house — up to 18 inches in floor height variance.Holiday cocktail spotlight: "Every time a bell rings."
