In the Department of Internal Medicine at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, our faculty and staff are dedicated to the education of our Internal Medicine residents as well as the students of the Brody School of Medicine. Our residency program offers excellent preparation for those who plan to pursue any of the fields in Internal Medicine including fellowship, hospitalist, academics, private practice or research. Residents and students have the opportunity to learn not only from teaching faculty devoted to full-time patient care but those actively involved in research and developing new technologies.
UHS Medical Center (formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital) offers superb resources for graduate medical education with excellent patient diversity. Our 861-bed state-of-the-art facility has over 13,000 admissions each year spanning from primary to tertiary care. It is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center and provides acute, intermediate, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to more than 1.3 million people in 29 counties.
Ambulatory training is based at the health sciences campus with over 52,000 outpatient visits each year. Residents also have an opportunity to work with community physicians in primary and subspecialty care. In addition to continuity clinics and block rotations, each subspecialty emphasizes the evaluation and management of ambulatory patients.
It is with obvious pride that we introduce our program to you. We hope you will contact us...or, even better...visit us in eastern North Carolina to see our program for yourself.
