Once upon a time in a place far, far away a woman named Mercedes Gaytan Cortazar designed beautiful floral arrangements for all her friends and family. Soon after, it became her passion along with caring for her three amazing children. As time went by, Mercedes decided to make a living out of her passion and Florería Mercedes opened its doors in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Mercedes went on to become one Chihuahua’s premier florists. As she saw her children grow up, she hoped that one of them would carry on her legacy of what had become her very successful business; Mercedes Flowers. But as one became a poet, another, an actress, and her eldest, a ballerina, she feared her passion would not be carried on long after she was gone. But one day the ballerina, her eldest, who also happened to be her namesake, Mercedes Cortazar, began tying those ribbons and cutting the stems off of flowers and decorating as if she had been doing it all her life. Soon she opened her own business and her mother’s legacy, Mercedes Flowers lived on. After 35 years, Mercedes retired, leaving the trade that she loved so much. It seemed as though this time, Mercedes Flowers tradition would cease.
