North Haven Gardens has a rich history here in Dallas. We've been a fixture in the Garden Industry since 1951, when Ralph and Muriel Pinkus opened up North Haven Gardens on a country lane at 7700 North Haven Road.Having just fnished a rotation in Guatemala, growing quinine to aid our military personnel who contracted malaria in WWII , Ralph and Muriel Pinkus were looking for a place to call home and start a garden center. Dallas was their choice and they purchased 9-acres on what was then a country lane. Ralph, a lover of plants from as early as he could remember, took care of his plants like his children, with lots of care and love. Finding a new plant was one of his greatest thrills. In fact, he introduced many new plants to our area including Lantana, Mandevilla and Copperleaf to mention just a few. Starting a new business required all decks on hand, and the Pinkus' young children, Jon and David, worked at the garden center, and "grew up" in the business. In 2007 the greenhouse in Wylie introduced a new branding program, Blue Label Herbs. Blue Label Herbs provides area home gardeners with an easy way to enjoy the benefits of growing their own fresh herbs for use in the landscape, cooking and crafts.
