What motivates us to do this work is our understanding that all life is sacred and interconnected. If we look closely we can see examples of kindness, beauty and wonder everywhere. Living on this beautiful blue green Earth is the most profound gift and thus all life upon it.
Yet clearly we see the results of separation from own selves, the planet, animals and from the inextricable connection we have with our fellow human beings. For whatever reason, too many of us have sought power over rather than power with and this has resulted in a lack of connection, disruptive behavior, conflicts and even violence.
What we have learned is that our actions have a tremendous impact on not only ourselves and ones we may have harmed or been harmed by, but reaches out sometimes beyond our own community. The lack of understanding that leads to adverse behaviors oftentimes results in great consequences.
As solutionaries, we believe the daily struggles and challenges of humanity require an emphasis on what can be and the creation of new strategies, programs and services that bring forth the best and highest thinking to address the impact of our choices.
Peace is not the absence of conflict but the ability to navigate through in such a way that strengthens relationships through understanding, mutual respect, clear communication and right action. For peace to be long lasting, we must grow up, wake up and take full responsibility for ourselves in ways that reflect our interconnectedness to others.
The River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding is working towards a societal change by providing programs, classes, workshops, leadership training, education and services that encourage transformation from violence to peace and from punishment to restoration. We forge partnerships with our schools, law enforcement, government agencies, businesses, existing groups, faith communities and individuals to catalyze this shift.
We are very hopeful! We see examples every day of this awakening, of new thinking, innovation, courage, resilience and love. We see daily manifestations of the vast potential to grow, learn, change, and bring to bear the kind of awareness that enables us to choose a new path.
Thank you for joining us as peacemakers, peacekeepers and peacebuilders!
“Conflict may be inevitable but violence is not."
