The Coalition is a group composed of various community leaders and organizations of African American decent and origin working together to present the African American experience.
The history of the African American Heritage Day Program is an outgrowth of the original PANORAMA program that was held at the Westchester County Center for a number of years. It was organized in 1969 by the Afro-American Cultural Foundation, under the leadership and guidance of its founder, Mr. John H. Harmon. From the early 1980's until present, The African American Heritage Day Coalition and the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation have cosponsored the event at Kensico Dam Plaza. Many volunteers over the years have made this and other programs a success and we are extremely grateful for their dedication and commitment.
