In October 1996, five grassroots student organizations united in order to organize and implement collaborative projects which aim to maintain diversity among U.C. Berkeley’s student population. bridges was officially formed when student leaders, already involved in University recruitment and outreach for over a decade, chose to take responsibility for working together for a common goal, given the post-Prop 209 environment. Today, the bridges coalition is comprised of the 7 Recruitment and Retention Centers which include: Black Recruitment and Retention Center (BRRC), the Native American Recruitment and Retention Center (NARRC), Pilipino Academic Student Services (PASS), the Raza Recruitment and Retention Center (RRRC), the Asian/Pacific Islander Recruitment and Retention Center (REACH!), the Mixed Student Union (MSU) and the SSWANA Recruitment and Retention Center (ARRC). bridges Multicultural Resource Center and all of the Recruitment and Retention Centers (RRCs) service over 10,000+ students every year across the State of California, US, and Internationally.
