fiftyseven-thirtythree happened by accident. We were messing around learning new skills like sewing, screen printing, and airbrushing. We took a box full of tees and a few appliqued hoodies to Capsule Design Festival in May of 2007 and decided that day that we would start our business with no real goal as to how long we would do this. It's been almost 3 years since and we are still hooked, building fiftyseven-thirtythree.Because we all want to save the Earth, but we also want to look good while doing it.Loretta N. Business Owner We live and produce our line right here in Oakland and are dedicated to keeping all of our production in-house. Not in the Bay Area, or close by in Berkley or San Leandro, IN OAKLAND. Every shirt and hoodie we produce says right on it "made in the city of Oakland". The name of the company itself comes from our Oakland address. I am a graduate of CCAC and like many of us settled in Oakland after graduating. Loretta is an Oakland native who studied Design at UCDavis and graduated in 2000 and returned to Oakland upon graduation. On the business tip, we use only American made sweatshop free apparel we also print using only water based, solvent free inks and paints. Now that's not specifically an Oakland thing but I think it obviously reflects the values and level of social awareness that are synonymous with the Bay Area.
